t's President Trump's 71st birthday

Ronald Reagan previously held the title of oldest person to become president. Reagan was 69 when he took the oath of office, while Trump was 70. Reagan was 78 when at the end of his second term, making him the oldest person to leave office.
IFollowing the shooting at the Republican congressional baseball game practice on Wednesday, the White House canceled all of Trump's public events for the day. The president gave a televised speech, expressing sympathy for the victims and calling for the country to come together.
The former real estate mogul and TV personality has previously hosted decadent parties in the past. On his 42nd birthday, the Washington Post reported, a 15-foot mock spaceship appeared to hover off the ground with smoke in one of his casinos.
His supporters tweeted him well wishes for his birthday. Last week, first lady Melania Trump sent an email to her supporters requesting them to digitally sign a card for him.
But his opposition had their own celebrations in mind. The group Rise and Resist is holding a “#SadBirthday” party outside of Trump Tower in New York. Their proposed gift for the president, who is currently embroiled in investigations of alleged links between his administration and Russia: a plane ticket there.
Andy Ratto, a member of the protest organization, outlined his reasons for protesting to Newsweek.
“Donald Trump is proposing policy after policy that will be destructive for America,” Ratto said. “While he is in D.C. blowing out the candles on his cake, we’ll be out in the s

Anita Pallenberg Changed How We All Dress, Not Just Keith Richards

Pallenberg, the German-Italian actress and quintessential rock chick, had died at 75, much has been written about her contribution to music history — most notably her effect on the Rolling Stones. For three band members, she was something of a lifestyle catalyst (also, at least for two, a lover).
Less space has been devoted to her effect on fashion, even though she was not only an indelible part of the designer inspiration kit, but also practically created a genre of dressing still on view today.
She is credited with having influenced the Stones’ look — the low-slung pants and furs and feathers and floppy hats and jewelry that transformed them from a jacket-and-tie boy band into icons of decadent glam in the mid-1960s. But another way of thinking about it is that they filched her look. And they were not the only ones.
Keith Richards, with whom Ms. Pallenberg was involved for more than a decade and with whom she had three children, notes in his memoir, “Life,” “I started to become a fashion icon for wearing my old lady’s clothes.” Because he ultimately became more famous than she did, the look is associated with his glory years. But it belonged to her.

Kate Moss, the model whose personal style and penchant for dissolute musicians is chronicled with obsessive attention by the British news media, is often described as the heir to Marianne Faithfull, another Stones paramour/muse. But Ms. Moss’s look is derived more closely from Ms. Pallenberg’s, including the sweeping coats, the unbuttoned satin blouses and the romping-in-the-concrete-garden hippie frocks.

Travis Air Force Base lifts lockdown after "real world security incident"

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- Travis Air Force Base lifted a lockdown Wednesday after being under a security alert due to a "real world security incident," the base said in a Facebook post.
The public was asked to stay away from the base while emergency responders did their job. A shelter in place warning was sent out by the base in a Twitter post.
Fairfield Police said it didn't respond to the incident and deferred to the base.
Reporter from CBS Sacramento posted a video to Twitter where you can apparently hear "real world" and "lock down" being broadcast over loudspeakers:
Beale Air Force Base in Yuba County -- which is a little more than 80 miles north of Travis Air Force Base -- was not on lockdown, CBS Sacramento reported.
"There was a security exercise underway at the base and somebody took that to be an active shooter and they went from there," said U.S. Rep. John Garamendi, who was briefed on the situation.CBS Sacramento, citing a Travis Air Force spokesperson, reports the active shooter situation started at the Base Exchange, but later said no shooter was ever found and it was a false alarm.
The base is located in Solano County, about 40 miles southwest of Sacrament

President Donald J. Trump Proclaims June 14, 2017, as Flag Day, and this week as National Flag Week

n Flag Day, we honor the symbol that reminds us that we are one Nation under God, united in our pursuit of liberty and justice for all.  Today, we celebrate and recognize June 14 as the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress formally adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the Republic.
Our flag is a source of inspiration and strength to all Americans.  Wherever Old Glory flies, we remember the six United States Marines raising the flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planting it on the surface of the moon, and our firefighters elevating it above Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks of September 11.  At the White House, at our homes, churches, offices, and schools, in our town squares and military installations at home and abroad, our flag celebrates our independence and highlights our resolve to defend and protect the country and the values that we hold dear.
By honoring our flag, we pay due respect to the patriots and heroes who have laid down their lives in defense of the liberty it represents.  As we raise the flag, we stand and salute or place our hands on our hearts, and we recall the fundamental truths upon which this Nation was founded:  that we are all created equal and that just government derives its power from the people.
I am blessed to have shared my birthday with the Star Spangled Banner and the U.S. Army for 71 years now.  Again, on Flag Day, I am deeply grateful to live under the red, white, and blue, and all for which it stands.
To commemorate the adoption of our flag, in 1949, the Congress requested the President recognize, by proclamation, that June 14 is "Flag Day" and requested the American flag be displayed on all Federal Government buildings.  The Congress also requested, in 1966, that the President annually issue a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week" and call upon citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2017, as Flag Day, and this week as National Flag Week.  I direct the appropriate officials to display the flag on all Federal Government buildings during this week, and I urge all Americans to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week by displaying the flag.  I also encourage the people of the United States to observe with pride and all due ceremony those days from Flag Day through Independence Day, set aside by the Congress (89 Stat. 211), as a time to honor America, to celebrate our heritage in public gatherings and activities, and to publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-first.

Beyoncé fans spark Twitter frenzy after speculating she has given birth to her twins

Beyoncé's fans are convinced their Queen Bey is currently in Labour and on the brink of giving birth to her two twins.
The Beyhive, the shared moniker given to the pop superstar’s fans, sent Twitter into a meltdown on Tuesday after they began speculating Beyoncé was either about to welcome her twins into the world or had already done so.
This was further heightened by US Weekly’s report there is a significant amount of security in an LA-based hospital.
Engaging in a spot of detective work, fans jumped on an image which hairstylist, Chuck Amos, shared of himself and Beyoncé, captioned: “Hang in there, mama!”
Caslon Hatch, who says she is a reporter for an NBC-affiliated station in Alaska, tweeted: “You heard it here first. A friend of a friend who is an OB at Beyoncé's hospital tells me she had her twins, a boy and girl.”
Others relished in speculating about what stage of labour the 35-year-old was at and appeared beyond excited at the prospect of her twins.
“Beyoncé is in labour this is not a drill I am freaking out,” said one.
“I just need a heads up from Beyoncé and the twins on when they plan to break the internet so I can cancel all my plans in advance,” said another.
“Where is Beyoncé? She's been too quiet. Are the twins born? Are they okay? Did she find Becky with the good hair? We need answers NOW,” added another.
“Good morning to no one but be

3 killed, 2 injured in shooting at San Francisco UPS facility

Police responded to the shooting around 8:55 a.m., San Francisco Police Assistant Chief Toney Chaplin said in a news conference Wednesday.
The UPS facility is located near 17th Street and San Bruno Avenue, ABC San Francisco affiliate KGO reported.
When police arrived, they determined that the suspect was inside the building and began evacuations, Chaplin said.

An officer then located the suspect, who put the gun to his head and shot himself, according to Chaplin.
Police note that no officers fired a weapon in responding to the call.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene, Chaplin said. It is unclear if any of the victims were targeted, but Chaplin said he does not believe the case to be linked to terrorism. A motive has not yet been determined.
Police have not released the identities of the victims. The suspect was dressed in a UPS uniform, but police have not confirmed that he is a UPS employee, Chaplin said.
Investigators are interviewing "dozens and dozens" of witnesses who were inside of the building, Chaplin said. Several people who were on site at the time of the shooting are not UPS employees, he added.

All the reasons Conor McGregor doesn’t stand a chance against Floyd Mayweather

As the drumbeat for a Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight grew progressively louder over the past two years — culminating in Wednesday’s announcement that the boxing match between the pugilist and the mixed martial artist would take place Aug. 26 in Las Vegas — one constant remained: The bout would be interesting in theory but a bloodbath on paper, with Mayweather wiping the floor with McGregor. And indeed, the early odds reflect that.

(For the gambling uninitiated, -700 means one would have to wager $700 to win $100 on a Mayweather victory. It implies that the boxing champion has nearly a 90 percent chance of winning.)
But why? McGregor is seen as one of UFC’s best punchers. Shouldn’t that translate from the octagon into the boxing ring? Here’s why it might not.
He’s never seriously trained as a boxer before this year.
There really isn’t much more to say about this. Boxing has been Mayweather’s occupation for his entire adult life and for many years before that. McGregor, though heralded for his striking skills in MMA and an amateur boxer as a youth, only began training solely for this bout earlier this year. This is probably a bit of an oversimplification, because it’s not like McGregor has never thrown a punch before, but it’ll be like stepping to the plate against Clayton Kershaw after a few trips to the batting cages.

(Want to get this briefing by email? Here’s the sign-up.)
Good morning.
Here’s what you need to know:
• Congressman in critical condition.
Representative Steve Scalise, the majority whip in the House, was among four people shot on Wednesday by a lone gunman at a congressional Republican baseball practice in suburban Washington. An aide, a lobbyist and a Capitol Police officer were also shot.
The suspect, identified by the authorities as James Hodgkinson, died after a shootout with the police. He was said to be distraught over President Trump’s election and had previously volunteered for Senator Bernie Sanders.
We have video from the scene in Alexandria, Va., and a map showing what happened.
President Trump called for unity after the shooting, the latest example in a grim trend. Shaken lawmakers softened their partisan tone, and some pressed to loosen restrictions on gun access.

It’s an indication that he will look into whether President Trump obstructed justice. This morning, the president mocked what he said was “a phony collusion with the Russians story.”
Separately, the Senate voted nearly unanimously to let Congress strip the president of the power to unilaterally lift existing sanctions against Russia.
• Questions follow London blaze.
Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain ordered a public inquiry into the fire that destroyed a 24-story apartment tower, killing at least 17 people. Many residents were still unaccounted for.
